The speakers enlightening Restore participants have been invited to present information on various aspects of holistic healing. Many speakers have chosen to share interactive experiences, so participants should be prepared to engage. Space is limited. All presentations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Dr. Brent Bauer •••2pm - 3pm Dr. Bauer takes participants on a tour of the scientific evidence showing the severe toll stress can take on our health. He will provide an evidence-based review of therapies such as acupuncture, massage and meditation that can help mitigate the effects of stress, encourage self-care and play an important role in an overall wellness strategy. Henry Emmons, MD •••11am - Noon Over the past century the rates of anxiety and depression in this country and worldwide have increased steadily. What has happened to erode our natural ability to bounce back from adversity? What are the preventable causes of depression? And what can be done to regain the resilience that is everyone’s birthright? Dr. Emmons will discuss the “enemies of joy” and how they affect brain health and function. He will explore the universal need for a healthy brain and how to integrate natural strategies and spiritual practices to support that goal. Kate M. Hathaway, PhD, LP •••10:30am - 11:30am Dr. Kate Hathaway will help refocus the energies of participants to look broadly at their health and consider the variety of ways to become even healthier. She will discuss the emotional, spiritual and physical components together as a blended approach to taking charge of your well being. Susan Just •••Noon - 1pm Andy Lear •••4:30pm - 5:30pm Lear draws on his personal experience with trauma and chronic pain to demonstrate the crucial role that an alternative mind/body approach plays in a full recovery process. Judith Lies •••5pm - 6pm Join Judith Lies for an introduction to Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) following Jon Kabat-Zinn’s research validated model. Practice the integration of the body and mind in the present moment. There will be time for questions and comments. Ann Mongeau •••1:30pm - 2:30pm Mongeau demonstrates the benefits of community acupuncture. Mary Treacy O’Keefe, MA •••3:30pm - 4:30pm O’Keefe speaks about the social/spiritual support, intimacy and opportunities to share stories provided by soul friends. In this presentation and interactive discussion, she shares the benefits of strong friendships and the four-step process on how to find and foster these important relationships. Anne M. Picard •••3pm - 4pm Kaia Svien, MS •••10:15am - 10:45am Begin your journey into holistic health at Restore by gently centering your mind and body so as to be more available to all you encounter during this day. Svien will describe mindfulness meditation, guide participants through a centering meditation and answer questions about the practice. Joseph J. Sweere, DC, DABCO, DACBOH, FICC •••12:30pm - 1:30pm Dr. Sweere will draw on his 47 years of award-winning chiropractic experience to define holism, identify the characteristics of a successful holistic health practitioner and explain the science art and philosophy behind chiropractic followed by a brief question and answer period.
Sheila McNellis Asato, MA •••10:30am - 11:30am Asato will introduce the four stage process that enables the dreamer to work with dream messages and attain levels of understanding rarely reached through other means. The strength of the process arises from a structure popularly known as, “If it were my dream…” Katy Becker •••10:15am - 11:15am Becker is combining an M.A. in Holistic Health Studies with an M.F.A. in Dance. She speaks on the emotional relationship with our bodies and how it affects the motivation to move. Through her Holistic Movement Philosophy she helps participants coach themselves to become more gentle with the language they use about their bodies and to open themselves to finding joy in movement and exercise. Elizabeth Berardo, BS, LST •••2pm - 3pm Berardo speaks about applying spirituality to the healing process to accelerate and sustain change. Whether dealing with physical illness or destructive thought and behavior patterns, she believes that being open and responsible and fully engaging helps in the return to wholeness. Dr. Chris Frykman •••4:30pm - 5:30pm Dr. Frykman will guide participants through the basic wellness approach to health and detail how applied kinesiology (AK) can be utilized to determine what the body needs, if we know how to ask. The presentation will also include a brief demonstration on how participants can use AK themselves. Healing Touch Healing Touch is an energy therapy that is relaxing and nurturing. Practitioners use gentle touch to assist in balancing your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Healing Touch works with your energy field to support your natural ability to heal. Benefits include reduced stress, decreased pain, strengthened immune system and more. Healing Touch is a complementary therapy that works in conjunction with standard medical care. Dr. Warren King, L Ac •••1pm - 2pm Warren King has worked with thousands of patients over 15 years and has developed the ability to communicate with the intelligence of the body as well as the soul. He will share practical information on how to stay healthy this winter and will address the root causes of health problems on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. David Miller •••3:15pm - 4:15pm Meditation is often considered an act that can only occur inside physical stillness. David Miller will talk about how, through the art of yogic breathing and movement, meditation can come alive inside movement. Once this meditative awareness is alive inside your yoga practice, it can be brought out into every aspect of your life, helping you live with greater intention and authenticity. Mindfulness Meditation Katie Murphy •••10:15am - 11:15am Katie Murphy shares a simple explanation of the body's digestive process and how it affects the body's health. She will discuss the body’s natural detox process, how it affects overall health and how you can help it along. Get to know your body and how to care for it so you may live a more vibrant, stress-free lifestyle. Mark Norman •••11:45am - 12:45pm Mark Norman will cover the most common questions encountered in his clinical practice. Questions like; Is there a difference between organic and conventional? What’s in a label? Which foods help with stress? Which supplements help with digestion problems? and more. Cathy Paper and Maryanne O’Brien•••12:45pm - 1:45pm Ruth Anne Plourde, MA•••11:30am - 12:30pm Ruth Anne Plourde will introduce participants to the art of Tai Chi and explain the differences and similarities between Tai Chi, Qigong and Yoga. Participants will learn and experience a simple 5-10 minute Tai Chi practice and walk away relaxed, yet energized. Julie Rappaport •••11:30am - 12:30pm Rappaport combines the use of Chinese medicine/philosophy, Ayurvedic/Yogic principles, Shamanistic practices and artistic techniques that give participants an opportunity to learn from their lives/health and create positive potential. Julie Rappaport •••4:45pm - 5:45pm Julie Rappaport will talk about creating energy in ourselves using traditions, modalities and philosophies from Yogic to Shamanic, various bodywork techniques and basic nutrition to help you energize, awaken, and rejuvenate at any time. Learn how to revive yourself and stimulate the body's immune system to help clear toxins that burden energy and metabolism. Joni Schmidt •••1pm - 2pm Schmidt speaks on awareness, energy, purification and the many paths to the one truth that is found within. She will share information on the levels of purification – mental, emotional, physical and spiritual – with examples of “tuning in” to restore a natural flow of energy. Nicole Schrader, RYT •••2pm - 3pm Demystify the misconceptions of yoga and learn the basics of Vinyasa Power Yoga in a workshop setting. We will be moving through a beginner's level class; workshopping certain poses and ending with a question & answer forum. Bring your yoga mat, questions, and an open mind. She will discuss the process of self-discovery and self-empowerment that comes with practicing a daily yoga regimen. Sandi Tazelaar, MSW, LICSW •••2:15pm - 3:15pm The ultimate gift you can give yourself is to examine your life from a belief-based stance, rather than from caution and fear. Sandi Tazelaar will discuss the process of capturing your essence, what you believe and how that connects to the spirit. She will share how the process provides direction and helps to make inspiring and nourishing choices. Annmarie Tenhoff •••10:30am - 11am and 11am - 11:30am Cynthia Thomas, BS, NCTMB •••3:15pm - 4:15pm Thomas will introduce participants to herbal medicine, by teaching the safe use of ten excellent herbs for personal and family well-being. She will explore the most common ways to prepare herbal medicine, as well as commercially available products and offer the opportunity to taste and test several home remedies. Carin Vagle •••12:45pm - 1:45pm Vagle will demonstrate “Yoga of Voice” singing and chanting techniques designed to relax the bodies and provide healing and bonding melodies for pregnant women or those who’ve recently given birth. She will explore the nature of sound and how vibration makes up all of creation. Mary Zelmer •••4:30pm - 5:30pm Spring Forest Qigong is a simple, efficient, and effective method for helping you experience optimal health, wellness, and happiness, heal physical and emotional pain and enhance the quality of your life and the lives of others. Mary Zelmer will talk about energy blockages and how they can cause your body's natural healing system to breakdown and malfunction.
